UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station
The University of Massachusetts Boston’s Nantucket Field Station (NFS) is a 107-acre field site of pristine salt marsh, rolling uplands, and harbor waterfront which provides education, research, and community service opportunities in partnership with UMass Boston, the UMass system, Nantucket residents, and other partner organizations. Also known as the Grace Grossman Environmental Center, the Station is located on the Quaise portion of the island and is open year-round to the public, K – 12 students and teachers, university students, and researchers who explore Nantucket’s unique coastal habitats and ecosystems.
In its 47th year, the Station, a member of the Organization of Biological Field Stations, has recently created an Institute to promote ecosystem management, established an endowment, and is refurbishing its laboratories and learning/living spaces. The university enthusiastically supports these ambitious plans and its collaboration with the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, Inc. to achieve them.
