Assorted Mooncakes

Explore debut September, 2007 #247.

Every year, without fail, a Chinese friend sends me an assortment of moon cakes for the Chinese Moon Festival (usually in late September/early October). This year, it was September 25. And, sure enough, just like clockwork (or should I say, "lunar accuracy?"), a box of 12 mini mooncakes arrived at my doorstep a few days before. (Rollover for fillings)

My least favorite is the lotus. My favorite is either the red bean or the date. The pineapple is good, but can be too sweet. The pineapple filling also sticks to teeth.

I know it's supposed to symbolize the full moon and all, but ABSOLUTELY NO salted egg yolk versions are allowed in my household - those versions, though traditional, I find unbearably revolting.
