Amuse Bouche: Tomato Burgers

    Newer Older

    Tomato "Burgers"
    Financier buns with tomato ragu.

Notes: The conceit was complete - from bun to sesame seeds. What was a little shocking, wonderfully playful, and tasty about these little amuses bouche was that they were sweet - the buns were financiers - the same served after dinner (without the blueberries, of course). The tomato filling was also sweet - they were probably stewed with sweet onions. I'm not a generally a sweet tooth, but I did enjoy this novelty - but just one was the perfect detour from an otherwise enjoyable series of savory amuses bouche.

Ack, I remember these! We ate at Blue Hill last year, and it was one of the best meals I've ever had.

@ smitten: Isn't it a wonderful venue? What time of the year were you there last year? Was Chef Michael Anthony still there?

We were there Aug 28, for our first anniversary, so I think he was still there. This year, we ended up following him to Gramercy Tavern for our anniversary, which was easily the second-best meal of my life, after Blue Hill, of course. He's really doing wonderful things there.
