Rupert Brooke Centenary Memorial on Skyros, Tris Boukes Bay
On 23 April Revd Canon Malcolm Bradshaw lead a memorial service at Rupert Brooke’s grave at Treis Boukes. In a moving atmosphere, the British Ambassador, John Kittmer and the representative of Rupert Brooke Society, Neil Maybin, read extracts of The Fragment as well as others poems by Brooke. Revd Canon Bradshaw spoke about the short but rich life of the great English poet who died in the young age of 27 on a French ship off Skyros coast en route to Gallipoli where he was due to join the allied forces in 1915.
