Detail of Cromwell's left leg

The horizontal crease across the back of Cromwell’s right boot is evidence of a join. A statue of this size would have been cast in a number of pieces which were then joined together using ‘Roman jointing’ as welding was not used at the time of this statue’s manufacture.
