The history of the building started with a fraud and scandal. An open architectural competition was hold to choose the best design and it was chosen and prized but finally the design of someone else, the member of the competition jury Wladyslaw Marconi came to the realisation and paradoxically it was a good choice.

The Vienna Secession decors of the hotel interiors were designed by famous Austrian architect Otto Wagner but unfortunatelly were not re-stored after damages of WWII.

Hotel Bristol was built in 1899/1900 and is in Krakowskie Przedmieście Street in Poland's capital, Warsaw.

Le Royal Meridien Bristol is, quite possibly, the best example of the splendour of Old Warsaw. Built in 1900 by a company whose partners included Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Polish pianist and prime minister.

The Bristol had its heyday during the roaring 1920s. After World War II, the hotel was renovated mainly in the socialist realism style, opened in 1947, nationalised in 1948 and later became a hotel exclusively for visitors from abroad. It was thoroughly refurbished in its original style in the 1990s and re-opened by Baroness Thatcher in April 1993, as Le Royal Meridien Bristol.

Today, the hotel flies Starwood Hotels and Resorts Le Meridien flag, without the "Royal" moniker, it is still one of the finest hotels in the country and is located beside the presidential palace.

By the Seventies, the hotel Bristol had lost its edge over other Warsaw hotels. In November 1981 the hotel was closed.

In 1991 the hotel was completely renovated and refurnished. On the 17th of April, 1993 the Bristol was officially opened by Sir Dennis and Lady Thatcher.

In 1997 it was ranked 38 in a list of top 100 hotels world-wide.
