Seen on a Side Street in Bakewell, Derbyshire

The last stop on our 2004 trip to England was Bakewell in Derbyshire. It proved to be an excellent base for exploring the southern Peak District, with good bus connections to Chatsworth, Monsal, Eyam, and other attractions. We liked the area so much that we returned to Derbyshire for two weeks in 2006, and spent our first three nights at the Rutland Arms.

On our first afternoon, a cloudy, hazy one, we retraced one of our favourite Bakewell walks across the Pack Horse Bridge and northward on the Bridle Way, and back to Bakewell on the Monsal Trail, an abandoned railway that has been converted for walking and cycling. We passed this well tended array of containers on a side street as we were heading out of town
