We took a day trip to Richmond Virginia yesterday which is 200 miles (approximately 320 KM) north of where I live now.
The city seemed relatively calm as night had yet to fall. The rioters had defaced and burned several buildings the previous night.
While I support the protesters 100%, I do not support the rioters. Yes, we need to change a lot of attitudes here in the States. No one should be judged by the color of their skin and certainly no one should be killed because of it. Unfortunately there are some people who have decided to take advantage of these peaceful protests by defacing, looting, and burning buildings. Most of that damage can be repaired but I'm fearful these actions are detracting from the real message.
Society as a whole needs to change. There is too much hate in this world and most of it is due to ignorance. What is happening at night across America is nothing but stupidity. The peaceful protesters are out during the day and return home before the curfew. That's when the idiots come out to destroy.
As a child of the 60's I watched as protesters marched through the streets for change. I certainly would have thought, or at least hoped, we would have evolved more by now.
Our "leader" has done nothing to try and bring our country together. He seems to be doing just the opposite by inciting more violence.
I hope that one day we can all live together in peace without the fear of being judged by the color of our skin, our religious beliefs, or any of the other idiotic reasons.
