Cleaning a Friend
I know, that's a weird title, but it's fitting for the somewhat unusual behavior that I witnessed between two large buck yesterday in Shenandoah National Park. These two had spent the morning grazing around in the meadow, seemingly not caring as me and a few other photographers in the area tried to snap some shots of them across the tall grasses. However, at one point, as the sun started heating up and they made their way towards the woods, they lumbered together, head first. Initially it looked like they may be starting a little pre-season battling, but instead they just kind of nuzzled each other and then started vigorously licking each other heads. This went on for a few minutes before they split apart and continued grazing only to do it once again ten or so minutes later. I can't say I've ever seen two buck do this before, but it was a cute moment.
