Sunflowers in a vase
Keys to Drawing, Chapter 2, Project 2F Alternating Free and Control Hands
Procreate on iPad Pro 9.7"
Exercise: The purpose of this project is to practice shifting between your free and yoru control hands. Place a vase of flowers before you and begin with a free hand gesture sketch of the entire subject. Develop certain areas a little further and then shift to the control grip to delineate some of the petals, leaves, shadows, and tones therein. Leave some areas loose and undeveloped. Shift back and forth between the two hands at least four times during the course of the drawing. Work in any medium and allow 30-40 mintues.
Marie came home with a bunch of sunflowers from the farmer's market. I think they were deeply discounted because of the rain. She put it in the large vase and I snapped a photo of it. For the freehand parts, I did it by looking at the vase and drawing blind, but for the control hand, I used my photo reference instead. By the time I finished, a lot of the flowers had wilted since I put down drawing this for over a week.
