Uncle Francis Gunbei!

Yoshi’s Jazz House and Japanese Restaurant, Oakland, California

Nikon D70, 50mm f/1.8D

DxO Optics Pro (blur, distortion, ca, vignette) NeatImage (noise, 0.5 sharp)

1/20sec @ f/1.8, iso200, 50mm (75mm)

My uncle Francis is a retired physicist for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. Here he toasts sake for my birthday at Yoshi’s Jazz House and Japanese Restaurant.

I like this shot because he looks like a happy buddha. But all it really does is hide what a mischievous and clever man he is. Uncle Francis says this photo reminded him of how old he looks, but to me it shows that he’s still a kid at heart.

Issues: Perhaps fill in flash might have worked here to reduce the shadows. I don’t trust the built-in flash though. This is past the camera shake limit of the lens.
