Sorry for the mass upload of airshow photos. ;-) I have tamed it down quite a bit since my first trip to Oshkosh which resulted in an upload of 1046 photos at one time! Ha! ;-)
My trip to Oshkosh was once again thanks to a close friend that owns his own plane and makes the journey just about every year from Texas to Wisconsin for a benefit Golf Tournament that he has been involved with for years!
And even though I knew it was going to be highly unlikely I would get the opportunity, I set my goals this year to try and track down and meet two people that I admire a great deal. Both of them are Pilots and both of them have impacted my life in their own way, and I am sure they have had an impact on many others as well. I simply wanted to get the chance to meet them in person, shake their hands and tell them how much I admire who they are!
The first is the owner and pilot of the airplane above, Kyle Franklin. Kyle lost his wife Amanda in a tragic accident in March of 2011 during an airshow performance in south Texas. Amanda passed from her injuries two months after the accident after Kyle had to make the very tough decision to remove her from life support. The way he handled this and how he has continued to move forward with his life since then is truly an amazing story.
The second person that I was hoping to meet is Amelia Rose Earhart! Amelia is a news reporter in Denver on channel 9 and has been following in her namesake's footsteps with her historic flights. Amelia is a distant relative of the original Amelia Earhart and she has completed a the cross continental flight in the US and is setting her sights on getting her Instrument Rating and the Trans-Atlantic flight soon! And then she will be planning her flight around the world. All in a Cirrus SR-22! The same type of plane my friend owns!
But flying is only part of the reason I admire Amelia. She is such a positive and motivational writer in sharing her experiences as she goes through life, you can't help but want to follow her and her excitement for life and experiencing new things! She is in a position to influence many people with her optimistic style and I just wanted to meet her and thank her for being who she is and for doing what she is doing! :-)
