Rags for Shoes

I took a candid portrait of this homeless man in Travis Park during the recent Jazz'S Alive show in downtown San Antonio, TX.

Honestly, I don't fully understand the plight of the homeless. I know there are certain types of assistance programs available for them. I would have thought there would be a way for the homeless to get donations of critical clothing items, like shoes for example.

I don't know if that kind of help really isn't available, he doesn't know where to get it, or he chooses not to get help... It's difficult seeing people in the U.S. that so obviously need help, yet figuring out how to really help them can be so complicated.
