I am a senior citizen aged 66. I am looking for some NGO who can take up my case with proper authority/authorities for the redressal of my grievance against the West Bengal Police where I had lodged a Case with them, but they did not take it up seriously, even though I met all the police officers right fom the ASP to the IG , apart from writing dozens and dozens of letters. I even approached to the Chief Minister of West Bengal who referred it to the same police station who have already closed my case. Can you suggest some NGO who could guide me in the matter or take up my caase with the right official. I shall be grateful. The other day I read in the Statesman that one lady was helped by an NGO to get her grievance against Calcutta Police redressed through the intervention of the union home ministry. Unfortunately the name of the NGO concerned was not mentioned in the news item. I wonder if any body could help me fighting the apathy and coruption in this part of the country. They can neither find the elusive Maoist leader Kishanj nor can they apprehend a pick pocket. But they sure can find their pay packet. In this particular case of mine the culprit finally confessed to his crime and offered to return the stolen property, but the police dismissed it saying he (the culprit) must be lying! He must have confessed out of fear! Can you beat it? What a blatantly shameless statement. No wonder the criminals fondly call the police as their "mama" meaning maternal uncle. Who else could give them such a protection. Little wonder, the People's Committee Against Police Atrocities was formed in West Bengal to protest against Police terrorism. Many eminent persons have been said to extend moral, tactical and logistic support to the committee. We desperately need NGOs to save people from police atrocities. More and more NGOs should organise themselves to fight the police menace in West Bengal. We don't, at the moment, need NGOs for food, pension, health, old age, etc etc - first of all we need to live, to be saved from the police atrocities, which has made our lives worse than dead.
