Northern Lights

Feb. 18th, 2010

Iso-Syote, Finland. Light pollution is from the ski-slope's HP Sodium and Mercury Vapour floodlights which were thankfully switched off at 10:30pm.

Constellations here are; Draco, Ursa Major (part), Canes Venatici, Hercules & Corona Borealis. The star to the lower right is Arcturus.. If you look closely at the keystone of Hercules you can make out the globular cluster M13!

The aurora is the green glow. The redness is caused by HP Sodium floodlights on the ski slope reflecting off the snow.
