2017 Project Power
Port Arthur Teachers Association brought David Banner – a rapper, actor, philanthropist, and activist – to Port Arthur ISD to speak with students and be the guest speaker at a banquet. The event was part of the three-year “Project Power” grant initiative, a collaboration of PATA and the school district. Banner spoke about the importance of listening to students, the impact we can have on their lives if we love them where they are, and replacing zero tolerance with restorative practices. Attending the banquet were TSTA Pres. Noel Candelaria and Exec. Dir. Richard Kouri, the mayor, superintendent, and several school board members. Impressed with the local’s actions, thirty-six additional employees joined Team TSTA.
