Miss Europe 1931
In February 1931 in Paris the third real international Miss Europe pageant was held. While painter Paul Chabas chaired, other members were Dutch painter Kees van Dongen and organizer Maurice de Waleffe. 16 girls competed, the countries Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Ireland withdrew, also Switzerland lacked, while Estonia joined for the first time. Mussolini forbid the Italian Miss to participate, but still Claudia Nocetti represented Italy. The Russian participant was Marina Chaliapine, daugher of the famous Russian singer. Miss France Jeanne Juilla won, while second was Miss Germany, the tall Ingrid Richard.
