French postcard by Pathé Frères. Photo: Félix.

During the early 1910’s handsome French actor Castillan starred in several short films by Pathé Frères.

Charles Jules Flasshoen Castillan was usually billed as Castillan or M. (Monsieur) Castillan. He started his short film career in silent films like L’autre mère (1910, Victorin-Hippolyte Jasset) by Société Française des Films Éclair. From 1911 on he worked mostly for another pioneering film company, Pathé Frères, in such shorts as Le roman d’une pauvre fille (1911, Gérard Bourgeois), Un mariage sous Louis XV (1912, Camille de Morlhon), Les martyrs de la vie (1912, René Leprince), La pipe d’opium (1912, René Leprince), L’infidèle (1912, René Leprince), and Coeur de femme (1913, René Leprince, Ferdinand Zecca). Among his leading ladies were Stacia Napierkowska and Berthe Bovy.
