Liane Haid & Willi Forst

German postcard by Ross Verlag, nr. 8258/1, 1933-1934. Photo: Ufa/Cine Allianz. This is a postcard for the romantic comedy Ihre Durchlaucht, die Verkäuferin/Her Excellency, the Salesgirl, which premiered in Germany in November 1933 and was directed by Karl Hartl. It is the classic story of a capricious princess in love with a literature historian who cannot stand her caprices. She then pretends to be the poor sister of the princess, an ordinary salesgirl. Of course the man then falls in love with her...

Prima ballerina, dancer, singer and actress Liane Haid (1895-2000) was the first film star of Austria. She was the epitome of the Süßes Wiener Mädel (Sweet Viennese Girl) and from the mid 1910’s on she made close to a hundred films.

The Austrian actor Willi Forst (1903-1980) was a darling of the German-speaking public. He was also one of the most significant directors, producers, writers and stars of the Wiener Filme, the light Viennese musical comedies of the 1930s. On stage he played in operettas and revues, but also worked with Erwin Piscator and Max Reinhardt.
