Drovers road

Ancient drovers road in Priddy, Somerset. Dating from the time the annual sheep fair was moved from the city of Wells to Priddy after the Black Death in AD 1348.

The area was an active lead mining centre from pre-Roman times until about 1900 and there are bronze age burial mounds and circles about a mile from here.

A few miles down the road (in Cheddar and Wookey) there were human remains showing this area has been continuously habitated for 9000 - 11,000 years at least.
