      Thanks. They were much better in reality. This photo is a combination of two different exposures (on the tripod) to try and get the shadows and the sky/silhouette right.

      It's nicely done anyway, it's a tricky thing to get right. Can I ask how you did it?
      If I was taking this I'd have taken at least three shots and merged them in photoshop using the "Merge to HDR" function then mapping the result back to a normal jpg.

      Its two photos, one on top of t'other (in Gimp 2.2). I put a graduated transparency mask on the image. End result: top half is the shorter exposure, the bottom half the longer exposure, with a (hopefully unnoticeable) blend between them in the middle. Not much changed between the two exposures and I managed not to wobble or move the camera on the rickety tripod.

      Well it looks pretty good - I certainly haven't noticed the blend even at the larger sizes.
