Baker County Tourism – 7221

A beautiful winter day along Oregon’s Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.

The Hells canyon Scenic Byway is one of three Oregon scenic byways that connect in Baker County and is a spectacular scenic loop passing through the majestic Wallowa Mountains and historic towns of Richland and Halfway on the way to the Hells Canyon Dam.

In the winter the road closes between Halfway and Joseph but the section between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam remains open year round and is well maintained. This portion of the byway offers visitors spectacular winter scenery and winter wildlife viewing. On this trip we were fortunate to see several Bald Eagles, lots of hawks, and our first Kingfishers and lots of other wildlife.
