Lloyds 8K38 "Hippy"

A groovy radio from the early 70's. It has all the "flower-power" colors.

Back in the late 60's being a hippy was a social statement, by the 70's it was a fashion statement.

What starts out as honest intentions always ends up being turned into a commercial enterprise.

This radio is a bit larger than I'd imagined. Nice multi colored hand strap. The entire backside of the cabinet (not visible in the pic) is covered in the same material as the strap.....kinda looks like rainbow suspenders.

There was another version of this radio called the "Hipster" which had both AM and FM bands.

There were some cool looking radios in the 1970's.

Very groovy Michael. Ok.... I've said. it. What kind of batteries did this one use since it's so large?
  • Michael Jack 7y

It uses a standard 9 volt. Although it's still a shirtpocket radio, it's just a bit bigger than I thought it would be.

Maybe it's me but it looks to be about the size of the first Sony Walkmen.
  • Michael Jack 7y

Just about the same size. Good eye.

This is by far one of the most stylish radios made in the "solid state" years!

How much would it cost to if you could buy one of these Hipster radios? Thanks!
  • Michael Jack 3y

These radios usually shouldn't cost more than $20.......
