Cana Island and Spike Horn Bay Nightscape
Between a break in the clouds and storms on 8/6/2018 the Milky Way appeared over Cana Island and Spike Horn Bay in Door County, Wisconsin in this panoramic nightscape image.
Cana Island is one of the more popular attractions in Door County, the key point of interest being the Cana Island Lighthouse and Museum which can be seen lighting up the clouds to the left of the island in this panoramic image. Being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 the lighthouse has served as a beacon for the area since it was lit in 1870 (constructed in 1869). To the right of the island is Spike Horn Bay which is directly north of the town of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. The walkway to the island was covered in a couple feet of water this year due to the level of Lake Michigan being about 1.25 feet above average the night this image was taken.
Also noteworthy in this image is Mars peaking out of the clouds just above the island, the walkway to the island covered with water is reflecting light from the bright planet. To the right of the island above Spike Horn Bay the biggest planet in the solar system, Jupiter, shines brightly as light from it is reflected off of the waves crashing on shore.
