Feb. 8, 2019 Detour Map w/ Trout Creek FSR
Map showing the new detour route using the Trout Creek Forest Service Road between Peachland and Summerland. This route accommodates light vehicles (five tons or less).
Highway 97 remains closed to vehicle traffic north of Summerland due to significant rock fall. Safety is our top priority, and we will have the route restored as soon as it is safe to do so. We understand the impact to local residents and business, and appreciate peoples’ patience while ministry staff work to create stability for travel along this section of Highway 97.
The other alternate route for light vehicles (5 tons or less) is the 201 Forest Service Road, which is accessed off Highway 33 near McCulloch Road in Kelowna, and via Warren Avenue/Carmi Avenue in Penticton. The speed limit along the 201 Forest Service Road is 50 km/h, and people must drive with caution along this route, which does not typically experience a high volume of traffic. Drivers using this route can expect a significant increase in travel time compared to normal travel on Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland.
Larger vehicles and commercial trucks must detour via Highway 97C, Highway 5A and Highway 3A to Highway 3. Travel using alternate un-maintained routes is not recommended and is being discouraged for safety reasons.
