RENFE: Miranda de Ebro
Miranda de Ebro is an important junction where the Irun-Madrid mainline crosses the Bilbao-Zaragoza-Barcelona line. In 1967 the lines from Irun and Bilbao were under electric operation but steam still worked all major trains on the other two routes. The powerful and modern RENFE 4-8-4s of 1955/56 worked fast passenger trains to and from Burgos while 4-8-2s, 4-8-0s and 2-8-2s handled the rest.

Miranda de Ebro shed was always busy and they must have been used to foreign railway enthusiasts as we wandered around taking photos without any problem. Unfortunately we could only spend a few hours there as we were heading back to the UK and were short of time.
