R1684. 30587 & 80010 at Fratton. July,1964.

1964/07.R1684. In 1964, Fratton shed near Portsmouth was used to store some withdrawn steam locomotives. On the left is London & South Western Railway Beattie 0298 class 2-4-0 well tank 30587. This engine was subsequently preserved by the National Railway Museum but is currently (2012) on loan to the Bodmin and Wenford Railway in Cornwall.

The locomotive on the right is BR Standard class 4 2-6-4T 80010. Despite not being the first of the class, it was actually the first one to enter service being outshopped from Brighton Works on the 10th July, 1951. It was withdrawn from Brighton shed in June, 1964 and Cashmores in Newport, South Wales, cut it up at the end of March, 1965.
