1966/07/16.RD3381. J.Z. Metre gauge 0-8-2 No.21 (Corpet & Louvet 1923) at Belišce.
Although Yugoslavia is, well, was, well known for its 760mm gauge narrow gauge systems, there was also a much smaller and lesser know metre gauge system based on Osijek in the north of the country near the Hungarian border. It was unusual in that the locomotives had side buffers and central three link couplings, features not often found on the narrow gauge.
Most of the locomotives were tank engines, but there were a couple of exceptions, and this is one of them.
16th July, 1966.
Thanks to '03 1008', I now know that 0-8-2 No.21 came to Yugoslavia from the Greek Thessaly Railway in 1945. Also, thanks to J.F.Andrist, I also know that she was originally an 0-8-0 tank engine and the tender and additional carrying wheels were added later - the tender does look like an old converted water tank! Whether this was added in Greece or Yugoslavia is not known. Does anybody know where she was to be found between 1923 and 1944 which is when she went to Greece?
