Sea Wolf!

View LARGE to see the wolf in the clouds! :-)

A warm sunny day at the beach in Nova Scotia. Hard to believe, I know!

This afternoon right after I left work early :-)

Sandy Cove

Terence Bay

Nova Scotia, Canada

Well, I managed to get away from work a bit early today and it was an amazing day here! It was almost 30'C and not a cloud in the sky. I took a drive down to Sandy Cove to shoot the lighthouse (as usual) but when I was parking the car I noticed how amazing the looked. Almost tropical with the green and blue colors!!

I wanted to try something I saw recently, throwing a rock in the water to capture the splash. I caught it on the first try, I couldn't believe it! :-) It isn't all that easy as this was hand-held. Throwing the rock and then composing the shot takes some planning! I set it to manual focus and pre-focused(sp?) at least. I even got a seagull in the shot which I didn't notice until I got home. I wonder if that's Sammy? LOL

So... I mentioned there wasn't a cloud in the sky. That's great for tanning but not so great for photos. I put the polarizer filter on the Sigma 10-20mm to help the sky, but let me tell you, on an ultra-wide lens you need to have it adjusted just right or you end up with a big dark spot and it almost looks like a huge blotch. Guess what? When I got home and viewed my images large I saw that almost all were messed up! Shit!! Time to get rid of that filter and maybe get an ND for the bright days instead.

Anyway, I liked this shot so much that I pulled a "Mike Jones" and replaced the sky. I know the purists are gonna be pissed but I say screw them! lol

OK... so now you know I replaced the sky, but the wolf thing was a total fluke! I copied the sky from another shot I took at the same time of day last summer. I placed it on another layer but it didn't really look right so I duplicated it and flipped it. I then did the normal blending/masking etc. It wasn't until I was all done that I noticed the clouds looked like some kind of animal (a wolf to me). Anyway, I hope you like it and aren't too upset that I changed the sky to save a shot and not make the day a total waste (photographically speaking).

Please, no multiple invites or crazy glittery graphics. Thank You
