Sandy Cove Lighthouse

Explored (Front Page) - Feb. 23, 2009 - Thank you all so very much!

Storm clouds moving out over the Sandy Cove lighthouse.

Terence Bay

Nova Scotia,

We had a storm on Thursday so I was hoping that the surge would be affecting the coast the next day. Well I was happy when I drove to the coast and found some great waves crashing ashore. I really love this hidden little spot. Most people around here don't even know where it is as it a dead end. Unlike Peggy's Cove where it is along a road where you can get to it and then continue on to other places.

I forgot about it but Andy (Andwhynot) mentioned getting wet taking this. Andy, you are so right! All the waves were of similar strength except one that came in about 10 or 12 further and totally soaked my feet. I had hiking boots on but it wet right up and over (and in) them! I will add that shot to the next one from this series I post. What I love about these types of shots is that with the moving water not two are ever the same. I like the patterns the receding water makes on the sand.

Post Processing info:

No HDR today, not even any exposure merging or blending at all.

Well, not much really other than the usual layer of curves to correct white/black points and correct contrast levels. Also I found the sky was very pink and and I wanted a more dramatic look so I desaturated all color from the sky and snow.

I'm not going to bother mentioning the web/flickr resize, watermark, etc...

By the way, I mistakenly shot as a jpeg instead of as raw but in the end it was a decent exposure and didn't need much correction.

Please, no multiple invites. Thank You

Feel the waves!
