Female Great Horned Owl keeps watch on nearby Cooper's Hawk
I drive by this Great Horned Owl nest daily and usually don't bother to stop as until there are little ones, there isn't much to see. On this day though, I notice a Cooper's Hawk in the same tree hassling the female owl as she sits on her eggs. The hawk made a few flyby attacks in between sitting nearby and making a racket. Needless to say, the owl was not happy. Once I tried to get a better look (and better pics), the hawk decided it didn't want any witnesses to its harassment and moved on. It was interesting to watch although I of course wish I could have gotten closer for better pics. Taken in Thornton, Colorado.
