1900 US Federal Census - Masiello family - Stratford CT

This is the first US Census that my Great-Grandparent are on after arriving in the US. They lived in Stratford CT when they first arrived in the USA from Italy.

There are two of their children who would not survive to see the next census. Leonard Masiello was killed as a young boy when he fell into a fireplace. Elizabeth committed suicide.

Another point of mystery on this census is the absence of my Great-Aunt Jennie. Theresa is listed as having eight children with six surviving. Well, there are six children listed on the census and Jennie is not among them. Who are the two deceased children? Perhaps these children died in Italy before the family came to America. It is also possible that there were children born between Elizabeth and Leonard who are more than five years apart.

This census lists all immigration taking place in 1892. If this is true, then it seems likely that the family traveled together or within eight months of each other. Elizabeth would have been an infant on the journey.
