Birds of different feathers sticking together

A Mallard duck male and a presumably domesticated/hybrid female White Mallard duck that swam and stayed very close to one another, and on their own, for probably the entire day (observed together from 1:00pm until after 9pm at which point they were resting/sleeping on the shoreline of the creek, bill to bill).
