Casuarina cunninghamiana 040208-4378

Colo River, New South Wales. Abundant trees in sandy riparian zone of the river, growing up to 25 m tall and 0.7 m trunk diameter. Dioecious, this is the female tree. The "cones" are in fact fruiting spikes, with small samaras released from between woody bracts and bracteoles. It is a true Casuarina, not Allocasuarina.
