Unsung Heroes

I have been challenged by Tim Valentine as part of the new group GetPushed to

"capture the nobility of 'ordinary' labor"

He has a crazy photostream, with an insane number of photos of circular objects. Check out his hipstamatic set in particular, it's fantastic. His response to my challenge of Joy.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the group, the idea is that you are randomly paired with another member each week, who peruses your photostream and then challenges you to shoot outside of your comfort zone. This is the group's first week.

Now, I thought long and hard about this one (hence the late submission). I thought about who I considered fit in the theme: policemen, firemen, lollypop ladies... but what nobler job than that of the millions of supermums and superdads out there who day in and out, look after their kids?

This challenge really did stretch me - not only did I avoid bokeh of any kind (which those of you who know my photostream, is nigh impossible for me), but I had to brainstorm just how I could represent the idea of these Unsung Heroes, relying on the idea rather than technical photo. Special thanks to my wife Sylvia and baby Ellie, who were roped into being my models.
