Tilt Shift Train

Newer Older

My latest attempt at tilt-shifting. Quite pleased with how its turned out. Original photo taken from a bridge, just outside of Chepstow on the England / Wales Border.

Best viewed at one of the larger sizes.

Looks okay at first sight but then I notice that the focus is not horizontal. Impossible to get this sort of focus with a real camera since you got the the track from the bottom left corner in focus, all the way through to the upper right corner with the areas left and right of the track out of focus. Rework and make a horizontal focus line. This would make the bottom left and upper right corners unfocused, which would probably give a much better result.

Will give it another go. The angle was deliberate in this case to make as much of the train in focus as possible, but you're probably right!

Ha, very good! I have also tried to do a couple of tilt-shift fakes. Too bad the link to the original version doesn't work, it would be nice to compare them. Anyway, I like both of your takes on this one. In the first one you have just used your artistic freedom, which I think is perfectly acceptable. If you can get better results in Photoshop than by using an actual tilt-shift lens, why not just do it. :)

    Thank you!

I'm not sure what i've done with the original now. Will see if i can dig it out.

Looking back now, i definitely prefer the second attempt...

I've not done any recently, i've not been anywhere high enough up!
