Current models of Canon EOS DSLR cameras have two different types of remote controller connectors:  a 2.5mm sub-mini jack on Digital Rebel models, and a proprietary Canon N3 connector on the other models (30D, 40D, 50D, 5D, 5D2, 1D, etc.)

This diagram could help you create an adapter, or replace the connector, to use remote controllers from one type with the other type of camera, instead of buying all new remotes when you switch or add different models of camera to your collection.

Both types have three conductors:  Shutter, Focus and Common.  The diagram shows which pins they're on, and which to connect to which.
