PUTT-PUTT - an abandoned mini golf course
This is an abandoned miniature golf course with a driving range nearby. Its strange to walk the course and think about the people that enjoyed themselves here. It was similar to walking into an old building where there was once laughter or other activities.
I looked at the man-made aspect of this place and the strange contours of the simulated putting surfaces. I could still feel the presence of people and a calmness. I remember a woman telling me that when she visited Florida she felt the most beautiful places were the ones that man had the most influence in creating. The putt-putt course possessed a simple beauty and flow also. Similar to music that maintains a sense of continuity throughout the entire piece. Still there are instruments that aren't tuned properly or a musician is lagging behind the others. The gestalt is the same but there is a disconnect along the way.
Another objective of my photography has been to take what is normally considered an attractive safe image of a scene but look for the object that distracts from its traditional perspective. The color is slightly exaggerated, the framing is traditional but hopefully the content is a bit askew.
Stephen Shore did a series of photographs in Monet's garden that were quite beautiful. Since I don't live near Giverny maybe i'll record the miniature course periodically to see how it changes. Instead of a tribute to Monet, mine will be to the ancestors of Ol Tom Morris.
