Blood on the High Seas

This is my brother holding a cobia that I caught 2 days ago. You may notice that he's covered in blood, mostly cobia blood thankfully. The deck was so covered that it was slippery and very hard to walk. Happily, I keep a bucket & brush on board for this situation.

This guy was about 4 feet long and weighed around 40+ pounds. I caught him using live bait while fishing for red snapper. He was a welcome catch because cobia is a famously delicious fish, pure white flesh and very mild tasting.

This was taken with my cell phone, I don't take my real cameras out there! Wish I had, big porpoises were playing around very close to the boat all day. They come right up to the boat to beg for fish. Whenever we catch a fish too small to keep and toss it back, it has a life expectancy of around a second when the porpoises are in the area.

We were about 18 miles out due south of Pensacola.
