The Coolest Pavement EVER!

Walt Disney World

Future World

The pavement over by Innoventions in Future World has long been my favorite pavement in the world. It's funny to watch people "interact" with the pavement. It's unsurprising that kids love it, but even adults stop to check it out and marvel at it!

This photo also helps demonstrate why I love the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. Sweet bokeh with an ultra-wide angle lens!

Details for the 2013 Disney Dining Plan were just announced; we have the changes (plus our review) here:

Love the pavement right there and your shot is awesomely sharp. I don't remember, were the fiber optics back there in the 80's?
  • Tom Bricker 3y

Brett Matthews I want to say they were added around 1994, but honestly, I'm not really sure.

Tom Bricker Gotcha, thanks.....I had a big 23 year gap between WDW visits. Curiousity!
  • Ralph 3y

beautiful! I love that area. What a unique and awesome angle!

The fiber-optic pavement -- at least the simpler "sparkly stars/pixie dust" incarnation, which I believe is what you have captured above -- was there in the first couple of years the park was open, which is when I took my first visit. I remember that The Living Seas was nothing but construction walls at the time, so it HAD to have been prior to 1986. I'm almost certain that my first trip to Epcot was no later than summer 1983. I think the more intricately-patterned pavers came later, and I'm pretty sure they replaced some of the original "sparkly" ones with those.

Love love LOVE the pixie dust pavement!

Oh wow! The pavement fiber optics bokeh sure is something special!

    I like the angle.

So cool! Bokeh in the foreground! Nice and sharp too!

Great shot. I've tried to capture those light up paving tiles, but I never though of having them OUT of focus. Every time I tried, I wanted them in focus, but having them out of focus is an amazing idea. Superbly executed.

    Wonderful perspective
  • Dan Huntley PRO 3y

    Fantastic low perspective.

Nice. Those fiber optic lights are so tough to capture in a creative way, but I really like your take. I especially like that you used SSE in your background as opposed to one of the Innoventions/Communicore buildings.
  • Craig PRO 3y

    wow, wow, wow, wow! Unbelievable.
  • William McIntosh PRO 3y

Love how that pavement glitters with those lights! I wish they would do that to out poor, dilapidated TL out here. Maybe in Tomorrowland 3.0. Nicely done!
  • { ...Angela } 3y

WAY cool idea Tom!! LOVE THIS!
  • Vanessa Guzan PRO 3y

I love the low perspective! I wish I could get some of that pavement installed on the walkway from my driveway to the front door!
  • Sean S PRO 3y

Absolutely love the lighted concrete bokeh!
  • Lenise Zika PRO 3y

Love this! When my guys were little, they'd try to step on them as they lit up. I have never figured out how to shoot those lights but you got the lights and sooooo much more! This photo is awesome!!
