The Dawn of a New Disney Era

    Newer Older

    Walt Disney World Resort
    EPCOT Center
    Future World
    SpaceShip Earth

The only structure of its kind anywhere, EPCOT Center’s colossal geosphere will tower 180 feet above the entrance to Future World. Once beyond this architectural wonder, the Future World visitor will know no boundaries.

This shot is another personal favorite for me from our recent trip (although it isn’t without its faults). From the exaggeratedly long leg on the right that leads to the geosphere (and is partially obscured by palms), to the shadows and light from those same palms, the rays of light from the sunburst that shine all the way to the right border of the frame(!), the palms leaning in on the left side of the frame to completely envelope the frame, heck, even the light falling on SpaceShip Earth I think looks great. Maybe (definitely) I am just patting myself on the back a bit too much, but I think it really embodies that spirit of EPCOT Center, pre-opening. Hopefully 2011 will be the Dawning of Another Disney Era.

Tom - Happy Birthday first of all.

Another epic Bricker shot... nicely done! The only thing that feels *off* to me, and it may be intentional and is certainly interesting, is the bit of madness with light flares and specular highlights over on the right side of the frame. I guess I'm slightly confused by the blotches of blue over there. Not a huge deal but my eye keeps coming back to it and it is a little distracting.

      Seriously though, really nice shot.

So bright, so sunny, so Disney in FLORIDA - brings back the feeling of being there so many times in that bright sunshine :) Beautiful!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Fantastic shot - gorgeous colors and phenomenal composition. I'm not quite sure what's going on with the right side though. It looks like the blue sky is on top of the leg? I don't know though. Absolutely brilliant work, either way!

I really really like the PoV and angle that you captured here. With the right 'leg' partially blocking the geosphere, It almost looks as if it's floating. And the lighting...WOW! Great job on this one. Those back pats are well deserved.

I love the sky and the shadows produced by the palm trees. Great work Tom.

GORGEOUS. Favorite part is the intense sun reflections on the upper left of SSE. I am a little distracted by the blue blotches on the bottom right of the image but I also like the colorfulness so I say leave it or get rid of it, it is a beautiful shot either way!

I went back to the RAW file last night because I was a little curious as to why those splotches were appearing. They're shadows from the palms--I used a tad too much fill light, apparently, which caused them to turn a tad blue. I've remedied this a bit and re-uploaded a new version, but it's still not perfect.

I guess this is an unfortunate by-product of the D7000's great dynamic range. While I was able to really push the RAW file to tame the highlights in the sun and bring out a lot of shadow detail, I couldn't bring out that detail everywhere. Oh well, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Tom - awesome 21st Century perspective! Definitely pre opening EPCOT Center worthy - and you know I dont just give any image that nod.
