    Walt Disney World
    Old Key West Resort

Few resorts at Walt Disney World have the exterior beauty of Old Key West. Lush, intentionally overgrown, and beautifully themed (complete with puffy clouds imported from the Conch Republic), the resort is near perfect--with regard to the exterior.

Inside the rooms, at least as far as our experience was concerned, the resort was not so great. I've often seen people praise the slightly larger room size at OKW, but we found the layout at BoardWalk more thoughtful and maximizing space better. More importantly, BoardWalk was clean and well kept. Our room at OKW smelled of must/mildew, had visible mold near the door and shower curtain, and had dirty linens. Suffice to say, if we were staying for more than three nights, we would have requested a different room. Now obviously anecdotes of this sort may not be representative of the resort as a whole, but I gauge a resort based on my personal experience. Based on our experience, it will be a while before we return to OKW (unless we receive adequate assurances from the resort that this is an exception, and not the rule--Sarah is currently in contact with DVC to convey our experience/concerns).

Still...even with all of that said...how can you deny this beauty?!

Viewing Large On Black is a Must!

On an unrelated note: TouringPlans will be creating a weekly photo blog in conjunction with some of its Disney Debates (which are ongoing on Twitter). For the opportunity to have your photos featured in the blog, check out the "Foto Face-off Friday" discussion on theTouringPlans Flickr Group!

OK, you've got me worried. We're staying at OKW for the first time in January for the marathon and will have my in-laws with us who haven't been to Disney in 20+ years. I hope our experience (at least with the cleanliness of the room) is better than what you describe here.

Great fishy shot. Long live the Conch Republic!

Stunning shot and I'm loving the beautiful reflections! Sorry to hear about your room. We had a similar experience at the Caribbean Beach Resort and, after mentioning our dissatisfaction, ended getting a free night at Port Orleans!

Very cool work. Did not know if you knew but a new feature to Flickr is that if you click on the magnifying glass just above the picture in the upper right you get a "view on black" inside Flickr.

If you go again, you HAVE to stay in the Pirates of the Caribbean themed rooms! They are only a little more cost wise, and the theming is honestly better than even the most expensive Disney Resorts. The POC rooms at Key West were cooler than anywhere we've stayed, including Poly, etc. The carpet looks like wood planks, the beds are like ships with lanterns for lights, even the chairs and table were themed. The entire thing looked like something right out of the POC ride!
