European Starling, flock 1.

Blackbird Flock Art . - (All Rights Reserved)

SOOC !!

A Flockheart ?? :-D

Note the bird of pray at the lower left. (possibly a Hawk or Eagle) This is the reason these starlings are freaking out. It's a defense mode they enter, similar to fish, when being attacked by a predator.

There are also other reasons they flock like this at dusk, but in this situation, it's believed that the raptor is generating the behavior.

I use the phrase Blackbird generically.

Per an interview with a UC professor on News10.net, these are European Starlings.

The full 6 Min clip of Blackbird Flock Art 2 can be seen here on YouTube, (and hit the HQ switch if you have the bandwidth)

I'll be sure to have an eye out for next years migration!!!

Thanks !!!
