Best reason to stay low when crossing tidal flats

Skimmers and Royal Terns make up most of this group...it's fascinating how they take off en masse from the tidal flats, circle around, and land together (usually in a slightly different spot). I am just guessing that they move this way as the tide advances, as each time they did this today, they landed a little closer to shore. (Bunche Beach, S. Ft. Myers)
