KPRK AM 1340 Livingston, Montana

Newer Older

Almost started with the Livingston stuff, but have decided to go Deadwood first. But I did find this additional view of KPRK which still broadcasts and their web site shows this great old building. Looks like they still use it.

It is a peach isn't it? I mean it is so Marconi, Atwater-Kent, radio is the newest thing, 1920's modern design. I'm surprised it wasn't put down 20 years ago for a lovely cinder block box.

Nope, I don't have this shot. Wish I did though! Interesting how the building is really quite boring and plain, but the addition of that entrance makes the whole thing wonderful.

Wow! And in Montana of all places.

The entrance and the windows made the building quite nice.

I grew up in Livingston '68-'83. The station was old school Box Car Willie country. On at 0500 and off at 0100. I visited last year and they are no longer using the building. It is a shame, it is the last of a great radio era before mega mergers.

Agreed, that is one old America radio shack. Thanks for adding some context to the photo.

I don't think we will ever see another age of real style for a very long time. It has a naiveté that is refreshing.

I worked at KPRK in 1982. It was a great old building with a great view out the back door. I've got some pictures that I took last summer and it looks like crap since the powers that be have moved the offices and studios to Bozeman in the name of economy of scale.

When I worked at KPRK, there was also an FM station (KYBS) owned by someone else in town and we were great rivals. Both stations had someone on staff doing local news, meaning they were at the local cop shop and city council meetings, etc. Now both stations are owned by corporate owners with the studios in Bozeman and there's nothing local about either station.
