How valid is it to suggest that health and beauty can be bought off of department store shelves?
There certainly are toxic chemicals in some of those products -- that is, chemicals which harm people and the world around them.
The message here is just about consumer products that are churned out of factories -- whereas health and beauty are, in many ways, a lot more holistic. For instance, the way we treat one another is part of whether or not we're beautiful, isn't it?
