Benedicte Kurzen, Nigeria

Benedicte Kurzen is a 28-year-old French photographer living and working in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She obtained a Master's degree in Contemporary History at Sorbonne University in France. Her Master's in Semiological studies was on its way when she decided to move to Israel in 2003. Her photographic journey started with covering hard news in the Gaza Strip. From 2003 to 2005, she traveled regularly from France to Israel, Iraq, Egypt, and Lebanon. During this time, she drastically changed her way of working from news wire photography to documentary photography.

In 2005, she moved to South Africa and, with five other photographers, created EVE Photographers. EVE is a way to stimulate collaboration between photographers and produce an interesting body of work about universal and contemporary issues.

Her work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, Paris Match, Le Monde, Courrier International, The Times, Der Spiegel, Die Welt, La Republicca Magazine, among others.
