The School Wagon | Paharganj, Delhi, India
The metal wagon with bars on the windows and backpacks on the roof was carrying school children, all boys, through the narrow streets of Paharganj. Meanwhile, an elderly Muslim woman with orange hair was walking past in the other direction. It is common in India to see older Muslim men and women with hair and beards dyed red or orange. This is done to hide gray hair and differentiate themselves as Muslims. In Islam, it is considered acceptable to dye gray hair any color except black.
