The Idol Stone
This is a wonderful monument to the power of erosion: two hundred tons of rock balanced on a tiny plinth in a geological stunt that seems to defy gravity. These formations occur as a result of low-level winds blasting the base with sand and grit over thousands of years; slowly whittling them down to hourglass formations.
And now for some bizarre trivia: this very stone was featured in the video for the Bee Gees song 'You Win Again'. For the life of me I can't figure out why...It's in the first ten seconds of the clip along with a few other images of Brimham Rocks and has no apparent connection to the lyrics or any deeper meaning. Check it out and you'll see that I'm not lying: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR6KBXbH3EI
