October 28, 2010: A Depaul student chants into the microphone, “We deserve an education!”
From the official press release for the rally:
On October 27, 2010 at 1:05PM, Latino military veterans, business leaders, and DREAM students concluded a peaceful protest outside of Mark Kirk's Chicago campaign office and headed inside the office to deliver a letter to the Congressman's staff.
Kirk's volunteer director slammed the door in the face of Latino Military Veterans and DREAM Act students. Then he gave them the middle finger. Just because they wanted to deliver a letter.
Take action!!!!!! Please try to come out to Kirk's office today at 4!!!!!!
**TODAY- Thursday, October 28th
Students take Kirk to School on the DREAM Act!
Kirk's Campaign Office
Partners: Equal Rights University Campaign, U o C students, Students from Melrose Park, Albany Park, Gage Park, Pilsen, Loyola, and Little Village.
In the Fall of 2010, I followed a few pro immigration reform groups: The Student Alliance for Immigration Reform in partnership with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and the Asian American Institute of Chicago. These groups all support the DREAM Act and the Smart Enforcement Act. You can read more about those bills here: www.chicagonewscoop.org/illinois-pulls-out-of-secure-comm...
The first set shows members of activists at an anti Mark Kirk picket line protest, who at the time was still running for Illinois Senate. Mark Kirk has declared himself anti immigration reform and anti DREAM Act, which would ensure the possibility for naturalized citizens to apply for citizenship and get a proper education. Mark Kirk later won the election.
